kieznest

At first glance, this small square in Berlin-Mitte is simply a shaded retreat beneath a lush canopy of trees. Kieznest reimagines its potential, transforming the grove into a social installation where nature and urban life intertwine.

Crafted from wood and mirrored surfaces, the design spills onto the sidewalk with concentric forms that gently guide pedestrians inward. Barrier-free and inclusive, it invites people of all ages into its core—a space where mirrored bands amplify dappled light and greenery, creating an intimate escape from the street’s bustle.

Nestled near a bakery, Kieznest offers hammocks, stools, and a wooden platform that becomes a stage for spontaneous moments: chalk drawings at noon, mirrored skyward gazes, evening conversations over coffee, or solitary reading. By reclaiming pedestrian space, it turns passive shade into active fruition.
